Management Team
Jesse D. Hurley - Chief Executive Officer & Co-founder
Jesse is a visionary entrepreneur and co-inventor on 137 pending US utility patent applications in network security, cloud computing, and the novel use of deployable, intelligent software agents. He led design and deployment of the first-in-industry push-based content distribution network, delivering live video simulcasting for a multi-billion dollar private enterprise. Jesse’s unique insights into advanced cyber security threats to critical infrastructure enabled his selection as Board Member and Chair of the Critical Infrastructure Committee of the North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB), an electric and gas utility industry standards setting body. Under his leadership, the company is positioned to grow rapidly over the next several years as enterprises and governments seek to secure IT infrastructure and leverage the promise of secure cloud storage and computing. Jesse attended the Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he double majored in organic chemistry and physics with a minor in international studies.
Frederick Rucker - Chief Operating Officer
Fred brings a broad range of experience and achievement from his 28 years of leadership roles in the telecom and information technology industries. With over 20 years of executive positions with firms such as AT&T, Bell Canada, Sprint, and Global One (where he served as Co-CEO of this $1 billion joint venture of three of the world’s largest telecom operators). Fred has led multi-billion dollar divisions and built business units from scratch, displaying a wide range of business acumen and leadership attributes that have produced consistently outstanding results. He has served on a number of boards of privately held technology firms in the past decade. Fred earned his Bachelor of Science Degree with Distinction from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and his MBA from Columbia University. He has served on the WPI Board of Trustees since 1996.
Ravi Anne - Chief Technology Officer & Co-founder
Ravi is an entrepreneur and technologist with a proven track record in cyber-security. Ravi co-founded SonicWALL in 1998 and took it public in a highly successful IPO three years later. Mr. Anne applied his business skill and subject matter expertise to direct Shift’s technology development and early market positioning. While continuing to shape the direction and growth of the company, Ravi secured the early stage funding, led business development efforts and guided the team through launch and early growth stages. He attended the University of Illinois where he studied Electrical Engineering.
Seth M.L. Voltz - VP for Engineering & Co-founder
Seth is a creative entrepreneur, computer scientist and co-inventor with Mr. Hurley on 137 pending US utility patent applications in network security, cloud computing, and the novel use of deployable, intelligent software agents. He co-founded the company with Mr. Hurley in 2009 and led development of its initial product prototypes. In his current role as VP for Engineering, Mr. Voltz is accountable for software source code development and quality assurance. Additionally, he leads the company’s effort to create and document all critical business processes. Seth received his Bachelors of Science in Computer Science in 2005 from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Stacy J. Brandenburg - VP for Operations
Stacy brings over 15 years of industry experience in various operations and IT management roles. His unique mix of leadership skills combined with a broad understanding of technical IT operations and a practical, hands on capability to execute flawlessly, add critical expertise to the Shift management team. He was responsible for the architectural design and support of global infrastructures for companies like Red Hat, Inc. and GoDaddy.com. At Red Hat, Mr. Brandenburg was responsible for all data centers as well as the global network communications systems that supported both the company and its customers in a highly demanding environment. Stacy’s efforts helped to pioneer the industry adoption of open source systems for use in mission critical enterprise applications. Stacy holds Bachelors of Science Degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle University.
Steve Zelinger - General Counsel
For more than a decade, Steve has served as General Counsel, Senior Counsel and strategic adviser to technology, payments, financial services and health care companies such as Visa International, Pay By Touch and Balance Health Corporation, as well as a number of early stage companies in Silicon Valley and abroad, including BlingNation, SweetSpot, and CarbonTracing. He brings to Shift over 25 years of legal experience, including having served in Washington, D.C. as Senior Trial Counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice and as partner in a national law firm specializing in white collar criminal defense and civil litigation, government contracts and regulatory compliance, government relations and international public finance, including development of natural and alternative energy resources in the US and abroad. Steve graduated Harvard, magna cum laude, and Georgetown Law School and Graduate School of Foreign Service, where he was editor of Law & Policy in Int’l Business, with highest distinction.
